Originally the Jefferson Reading Center, the Jefferson District Library has been giving people of all ages the opportunity to read and learn more since 1828. Built on the former site of a small hotel, the Jefferson District Library has gone through many changes since its inception. Our first major expansion was in 1896 when the Reading Room was added. The entire east wing was added in 1933. Prior to that year, the rooms in the east wing were actually part of another building! In 1993 we introduced our online catalog. It is now the primary way to locate books, but the old cards are still available and functional for anyone interested in a history lesson.
